Flowers that hold up through an Alabama summer

Friday, July 10

July in Birmingham is hard on cut flowers. Heat speeds everything up, from opening to fading. The good news is that some flowers are built for it.

Our most heat-tolerant stems

  • Lisianthus: looks delicate, lasts ten days or more.
  • Zinnias and sunflowers: grown locally all summer.
  • Chrysanthemums and alstroemeria: reliably two weeks.
  • Magnolia and eucalyptus foliage: holds its shape when blooms start to tire.

Simple care at home

Keep arrangements out of direct sun and away from the fruit bowl, since ripening fruit releases ethylene that ages flowers faster. Trim stems at an angle every two or three days and refresh the water each time. If your air conditioning runs cool, place the vase in the coolest room of the house overnight.

Every bouquet we deliver comes with a care card and our seven-day freshness promise.
